For one, I am glad the Donald Trump ate his Wheaties since it was a marathon day of insults and crazy more insults. Mitt Romney left the family compound to lob everything from school-house insults to the really low blow – “His is not the temperament of a stable, thoughtful leader,” Romney declared. He called Trump “a phony” who is “playing the American public for suckers,” a man whose “imagination must not be married to real power.”
I will get back to this statement in one second, but the statement I was referring to was this: Romney ripped about Trump’s business background, ticking off bankruptcies and abandoned efforts. “What ever happened to Trump Airlines?” he said. “How about Trump University? And then there’s Trump Magazine and Trump Vodka and Trump Steaks, and Trump Mortgage?”
“A business genius he is not,” Romney said.
To be clear about Romney’s business acumen: Quite simply, under Mitt’s leadership, Bain Capital had a worse investment record than the federal government’s backing of alternative energy companies (e.g., Solyndra). In fact, Romney’s record at Bain showed him picking firms that went into bankruptcy at three times the rate of the fed record.
Makes Trump Magazine and Trump Vodka and Trump Steaks, and Trump Mortgage, seem just like any other business venture which, by the way, ANY new business venture has a better than average chance of failing……. So what should an entrepreneur do, Mr. Romney, never try? Further, Wall Street Journal that analyzed Bain Capital investments while Romney headed the firm. The Journal found that 22% of the companies went bankrupt within eight years.
I also remember another thing, besides the fact that Mr. Romney wrote off 47 percent of the people in America as needing handouts and not paying income taxes……. He also once defended his five strapping sons’ decision not to enlist in the military, saying they’re showing their support for the country by “helping me get elected.” In fact one of them had the tough duty of driving a fully equipped recreational vehicle around Iowa to visit all of the small towns…… Take THAT you soldier slugs toughing it out in the desert! MY SON is doing his part to bring my wonderful self to you as the President……. Besides, most of those soldiers came from that “unwashed” 47 percent so they need to give BACK since they have been living off of MY taxes!!!!
A Romney presidency would have been dark for 47 percent of the people. I think God and the 47 percent + felt that his “imagination must not be married to real power.”As the old guard of the Republican Party cheered Romney’s outspoken remarks on Thursday, a number of people maybe 47 – 51 percent of the listening audience were at once horrified and relieved that he would not be entering his second term next year.
So what about the debate? It was another wrestling match but this time with yoga and phallic measuring sticks.
What struck me was the fact that none of the three —- other than Donald Trump knew anything about business and Trump did not know how to defend his own business. When Marco said something about him not being a leader, I asked myself : “Self, Mr. Trump employs tens of thousands of people, why does he not mention the fact that he has led them, provided compensation, health benefits and enabled these people and their families to not only enter the “middle class” but lift their families out of poverty?” What they are talking about, he has done! Mike Wallace asked Marco how many jobs he created and he looked as though his best friend betrayed him! – Everyone is supposed to be on his side! In fact, he dance around regarding the “conditions that government should set …. yada….yada” and deflected. Because Rubio has NEVER done anything outside of politics. And the last 6 years, he stated that he “hated” the Senate…. after many in Florida wasted their time and treasure helping him to get what was at the time his “dream job”……Republican presidential candidate Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who has missed more votes than any other senator, made a rare appearance on Capitol Hill to argue for a bill that would crack down on federal employees who don’t do their jobs.
Said Senator Rubio: “All we’re saying in this bill is if you work at [Veterans Affairs] and you aren’t doing your job, they get to fire you. I think people are shocked that that [doesn’t] actually exist in the entire government, since there is really no other job in the country where if you don’t do your job, you don’t get fired,” Rubio said somewhat ironically, reported CBS News.
Rubio said that his legislation would make it easier for the government to fire or demote Department of Veterans Affairs workers based on performance.
“In this instance we’re just limiting to one agency,” he added. “This should actually be the rule in the entire government. If you’re not doing your job, you should be fired. But this is limiting to the VA because we’ve got a crisis there with the lack of accountability.”
Marco, missing votes even before announcing his bid for the Presidency, says he expects to win Florida.
Cruz was Cruz. Had the yoga analogies, the religious analogies, the children analogies. I am not sure he got through, and although he too has no knowledge of the business world, he said a couple of things about the Constitution and Trump’s temperament.
Kasich told a few stories and pretty much did what I would have done —– stayed out of the way. THAT was a positive accomplishment…… In fact THAT was quite admirable.
Trump, for the most part, had to play the defense. First defending the size of his reproductive organ…… something happened in the crowd – a lack guy walked up and held his hand up for Trump to measure his hand……. the hands were the same size (Trump and the fellow’s) – to which the guy said —- “you’re straight, you’re good”. He had to defend his Trump University – BTW the guy who is remodeling my house said he took the course and it was beneficial. Not everyone can learn and certificate classes have a notorious “non-complete” reputation for obvious reasons.
So, in a few paragraphs, that was the debate. Nothing changed, nothing moved.
