This morning it occurred to me that the goal for this years primary keeps changing. Prior to the primary in Wisconsin, Wisconsin was the beginning and the end of the primary season election. The fact that Trump lost meant that the presidential primary contest was essentially over. Cruz was lauded for his “administrative prowess”, by the press for being able to siphon off delegates even though the PEOPLE voted for a different winner — Donald Trump. The headlines after Wisconsin was that Trump should end his bid for election because “the handwriting was on the wall” and it was essentially over.
Then along came New York, and the sweep of the Northeast last night. All 6 state primaries were better than expected. In fact, they were above the arbitrary ceiling that was set by the “pundits” on every channel. But to no avail, this morning three things occurred. The first was that there was a notable discount of the northeast successes by Trump as being “something that was expected” because that is his home. Well, I understand that he lives in new York but was unaware that he also had residences in all of the other states as well. The second thing that happened was that Paul Ryan gave a somewhat outside of the box “Presidential” speech. It was odd since Paul Ryan is current Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. He is not running for President and the Speaker has only one “agenda” — that of the President. The Speaker does not set an over-arching “agenda” for the country or anything other than what is taken up by the House….. or so I thought. And then the third thing WILL occur at 4:00 eastern standard time – that is Ted Cruz is going to announce his “running mate” – Carly Fiorina. This was after giving a speech outlining what he was going to do after taking residence in the White House. he spoke with certainty that HE will be the President and the “leader of the free world. He had it all mapped out.
OK, such is the old saying “the best-laid plans of mice and men often go awry”. When last I checked there was only one “President of the United States” and it was not called the “USA Presidential Trio” unless it was a “bit act” with music and dancing at the Foxtail Nightclub in Las Vegas.
Now the cheese is moved yet again……. (another mouse analogy) The most important state is now Indiana. Indiana is now the center of the contest. So what makes Indiana so important? It is important only because the chosen candidate might have the last chance, not to win but to block the chosen candidate from going on….. And how would this benefit Ted Cruz? It will benefit him because he will be able, in his well laid plans, to usurp the will of the millions of people who did not vote for him by the political gamesmanship of delegate voting.
So here is the conundrum……. among many…… How is this drama viewed through the eyes of the people who stood in line in the cold, rain, heat and snow? Who managed to register and took the time to vote….. That group that constitutes the bulk of America is beginning to view the entire process in both parties as being “rigged”. And rightfully so.
On the Left they see a woman who seems to be the antithesis of what she appears to their lying eyes. A woman whose policies set the stage for the mess and confusion of the Middle East. A woman whose dishonesty is legendary. A woman who commands and demands hundreds of thousands of dollars for speaking engagements and is worth hundreds of millions of dollars passing herself off as a middle class granny or recently released black slave who “don’t feels no tired” while carrying a purse satchel filled with Tobasco sauce. This is a woman who is also assured the padding of “super delegates” to make sure that she is selected not elected if needs be.
And on the Right r side we are watching a political drowning. Ted Cruz is in the middle of the river without a life jacket flailing his arms while trying hard to save his drowning campaign. First he forms an alliance with Kasich who appears to have been “had” by this arrangement. And now….. he has picked his “running mate”. At this point, I hope that they plan to “run” a 10K or marathon because I just don’t think this will help……
Meanwhile the plight of the American people goes on while these people that eat and drink at the trough of politics, do so without thinking of the sweat, hopes and fears of the American people. They move ahead with their vainglorious, vulgar need to attain their ambitions. So they don’t care about voting and thus they don’t care about 15th, 19th, 23rd, 24th, 26th (voting) amendments to the constitution while invoking their reputation as a a person who believes in “strict constitutionalism”. One might say that the old Constitution is OK as long as it works for the candidate and a piece of paper when it does not.
You see, the people who lined up in every iteration of weather, taking time out of their busy day and/or eschewing work in order to attend a rally or vote in the primary has EVERY reason to be angry. With “party people” telling them that they have no say and candidates siphoning off delegates that were instructed to follow the will of the people, they feel betrayed.
And they should feel betrayed. In 2013, a survey of the middle class found that if they had a $400 (four hundred dollar) emergency, 47 percent said that they would either have to take out a loan or sell something to cover that emergency! That means that nearly half of the population might be living paycheck to paycheck without the financial means to cover even a 400 dollar problem.
These people, the middle class, suffered greatly during the recession 7 or 8 years ago, and many have not recovered. As I watch the news reporters speak about how candidates want to build “doom and gloom” when, for example, Buffalo, is now “booming”. Just think, if you are one of those people who went “bust” during the 2008 – 2009 time period, and lost your job, house and dog……. how many of those items have you gotten back and how much of a boom do you feel?
So yes, the people are angry and not for frivolous reasons. They feel insecure for their future and betrayed by their “leaders” who choose to say one thing, got to Washington and then do another. And they felt that their vote counted……..
So, if the “powers that be” decide that they want to steal the rights bestowed upon these people by inserting illegitimate candidates who do not represent the will of the MAJORITY of the people but the whims of their own desires and anointing, they might find themselves without a party or a platform. Because the party is for representation OF THE PEOPLE and if the party only exists to serve the “inside” members…. the people would then have no need for the party only the insiders will …… and how many s”salaries with perks” will that “passing of the hat” fill.
So there you have it, simple explanation but very important. Do not usurp the will of the people, no one is so precious that they can not be replaced…..
