A Russian airliner bound for St. Petersburg crashed while flying over Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, killing all on board. With the peninsula seeing fierce fighting recently as the presence of foreign-backed terrorist organizations has grown, immediate suspicion was raised regarding a potential terror attack involving either a bomb brought on board or a missile fired from below.
It appears that some writers feel that there is reason for “elation”. “it would also be the most unwelcome news possible for Vladimir Putin, who sold military intervention in Syria to the Russian people as a way of making them safer. In turn, opponents of Russian intervention – the US, Turkey and the Gulf Arab despots – would be privately elated. For does this not prove their argument that Russian intervention only complicates the situation on the ground while increasing the threat of terror attacks?” http://www.globalresearch.ca/west-secretly-elated-over-downed-russian-airliner-cui-bono/5486740
While I understand that there is a “competition” of policy and values, why on earth would there be “cause for elation” on he part of any other nation? The reality is that ISIS, is a respecter of any nation that they deem to be “infidel”. I see this triumphant look in many reporter’s eyes as the say the words” does not fit with Putin’s narrative” as though ISIS and the reporting country are now “com-padres”.
There is one reality that will set in …… soon. Putin will likely unleash a special “problem” for this act….. if it is indeed ISIS related. Another reality is this, for those elated at the seeming “in your face” type of attack on Russia and ultimately Putin, none of us are safe. Putin could well therefore feel obliged to hit back even harder against Isis in Syria, and closer to home as well.
Some of the group’s recruits have come from the Islamic republics regions in southern Russia – most notably Chechnya where separatist and jihadist groups, some linked to Isis, still operate. World opinion will matter to him about as much as …….nothing.
In the meantime…….. President Vladimir Putin ordered the suspension of all Russian passenger flights to Egypt. Which probably has Egypt “sweating bullets’ since they are very dependent on the income from tourism and other trade. Egypt is one of the most popular holiday destinations for Russians and any decision to suspend flights would cause major logistical problems for Russia’s airlines and tourists. Tourist agency Tez Tour, which estimates it sells about 15 percent of trips to Egypt from Russia, said 10,000 of its Russian clients were in Egypt.
I suspect we will hear more of this in the future…… but don’t rest or travel lightly because it “was them and not us”. 9-11 proved that it COULD happen here…… lest anyone forgets.
